The Meme in the Hat

Aren’t memes great?

Like food, puppies, and social media, memes are just one of those things that tends to unite people. Stemming from the greek word mimema, which literally translates to “that which is imitated” memes are typically spread on the internet as a humorous image, gif, video, text, etc.

But honestly, what’s the point?

Why are they so popular and why can’t anybody get enough of them?

Memes are viral sensations that are intended to poke fun at social ideas and make fun of human behavior. They are typically intended to be funny, and invoke positive emotions however, they also can be used for marketing, generating awareness, relating with friends, etc.

In short, memes promote communication, people on the internet have been utilizing memes as a method of communication that is much easier and less time consuming than actually reading an article, paragraph, or blog post.

In today’s fast and technology based society, people are always scrolling, reading and absorbing information, which has inevitably caused an influx of attention deficit. People online are only looking to absorb the most amount of information in the least amount of time.

Memes are the solution to this problem because a picture with only a few words attached is often enough to send a message clear enough for a reader to either laugh at, relate to, agree with, or disagree with. The next step for a reader would be to share this meme, either with followers online or friends in real life.

In this blog, I’ll be analyzing different memes and their specific impact online.
